Only Fools and Horses has some legendary main characters but the support cast were equally as vital. There have been characters who have appeared in only one episode but the actors have actually reappeared in a different role. In this article, we take a look at the actors who have appeared twice but played two completely different characters.
Nick Stringer – Aussie Car Buyer & Jumbo Mills
Perhaps the most prominent example of an actor playing two characters in Only Fools & Horses is that of Nick Stringer.
We first encountered him as the unlucky punter buying Del’s clapped-out motor in Go West Young Man. If you recall, the episode ends with the unnamed Aussie crashing said banger in to the back of Boycie’s E-Type Jaguar.
He then reappeared in the final episode of Season 5 as Jumbo Mills; a former friend and business associate of Del’s who had moved to Australia to become a successful owner of a car firm. Interestingly enough, this episode was originally intended to be the last-ever of Only Fools & Horses! If you watch the episode you get a good feel for how the show could have closed out with this episode (and just a few minor dialogue/story changes).
Rex Robinson – Harry The Foreman & The Vicar
Rex Robinson (who sadly passed away in 2015) was a talented British actor with over 50 TV and film credits to his name. His first OFAH appearance was in the episode entitled Healthy Competition, where he played the part of Harry the Foreman who laughed at Rodney and Mickey’s “shrewd” purchase of a gross of broken lawnmower engines. Three years later he played the role of the Vicar in the episode Video Nasty. In this appearance, he makes reference to Boycie being a “jaffa” – seedless.
Jeff Stevenson – Police Constable & Stag Do Comedian
This is a really tricky one to spot … so good work if you’ve picked it! In To Hull & Back, the apparently unnamed cop is played by actor Jeff Stevenson. 4 years later he played the part of the stand-up comedian at Rodney’s stag do in The Nags Head. And if you thought that Stevenson seemed like an absolute natural in this scene, it’s probably because he is! In real life he was actually a stand-up comedian!!
John Collins – River Police Officer & Vet
This particular double-up is pretty hard to spot without referring directly to the full episode credits. However, it still counts! John D.Collins played the river police officer who stopped Del Boy and Rodney from throwing Trigger’s Grandad’s ashes into the Thames. He also played the the vet in the episode Sleeping Dogs Lie.
