Here’s a great little story that shows love for Dad’s Army is just as strong as ever.
Thetford – where Dad’s Army was (for the most part) filmed – has welcomed a new 62 bedroom hotel at the heart of an %8 million redevelopment of its town center.
And, as you might expect from the spiritual home of Dad’s Army, some rather well-dressed enthusiasts from the Dad’s Army Museum turned out to help celebrate the opening of Thetford’s new Travelodge:
Travelodge were kind enough to invite the platoon from the Museum down to the new hotel’s grand opening, in honour of Thetford’s legendary connection with the TV series.
And here’s another fun fact for you: The real cast of Dad’s Army often enjoyed a drink (or two) at the Anchor pub, which used to occupy the same site as this new hotel. Furthermore, the very first ever scene of Dad’s Army was filmed in the Norvic Room of the Anchor … how about that for some history!
Travelodge have also made special reference to their new site occupying the “home” of Dad’s Army – there is a special plaque on the outside of the building detailing Thetford’s historic relationship with the show. You can see a section of the plaque in this picture:
